ARMOR OF GOD - Introduction

By Linda Sedrick Pearson

God tells us in Ephesians 6:11 that we are to "put on the whole armour of God." He then tells us why this is important, "so that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." The Merriam-Webster dictionary gives these definitions for the word "wiles":

  • a trick or stratagem intended to ensnare or deceive; also : a beguiling or playful trick
  • skill in outwitting
Without the armor of God, you can easily be deceived or tricked by the devil. There are many pieces of the armor and each one is necessary. Without all the pieces ("the whole armour"), the devil may be able to use his skill against you and outwit you.

What does this mean? It means that the devil may even trick you into fighting a battle that God never meant for you to fight. If you are not fully prepared for the battle, you may stumble and fall. You may be lead down the wrong path. Many things can happen to you when you are not fully prepared.

What do you need to do? You need to do exactly what God tells you to do. "Put on the whole armour of God so that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." He won't be able to trick you if you have prepared for battle by applying all the pieces of the armor to your life.

We will be studying the rest of these verses (Ephesians 6:11-17) over the next few days. We will learn how to put on the armor, how to use that armor, and how to stand against the "wiles of the devil."
