Out of Darkness

By Linda Sedrick Pearson

John 1:5 "And the Light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."

John 1:12 "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of GOD, even to them that believe on His name."

Those in darkness can not comprehend (understand) the things of GOD or Jesus. Those who are in darkness will never be able to understand the Light until GOD calls them out of darkness and they accept that call.

Sit in a dark room. Turn on a very small flashlight. What happens? You get a very small beam of light. This is enough light so that you don't bump into some things, but not enough for you to see everything around you. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you receive a small beam of light inside you. You can understand some things about Jesus, but some things are still hard to comprehend.

Now, let's add more light to the room. Use a larger flashlight in your dark room and what happens? You can now see more things around you, but this is still a circle of light that reaches only so far. When we accept Jesus as our Saviour, we receive a small beam of Light. When we begin to fellowship with other Christians, the beam of Light grows brighter.

It is now time to turn on the light in the room. Go ahead and flip the switch. What happens now? The whole room lights up around us. When we accept Jesus, fellowship with other Christians, begin to pray and read the Bible (GOD's word), then our whole world begins to brighten. The Light is now able to shine more in our lives and we can see what is around us. We begin to take notice of others who are in darkness.

Look around your room now. Notice that there are dark corners lurking that the light has not reached. If you set a lamp in a corner; then, that corner is no more dark. Are there dark corners in your life that you have not allowed GOD to reach? Is there something that is standing between you and the LORD? Is there something that you have not confessed? Anything? Do you have hard feelings toward someone; or maybe something that you do that you know it is a sin but continue to do it anyway? When you get tired of those dark corners in your life, turn on the Light there. Confess to GOD about whatever it is that is standing between you and the LORD. Ask Jesus to forgive you and to reveal to you anything that is allowing the darkness to remain.

Jesus is the Light and He will set you free from the darkness. Are you ready to come out of the darkness?

Romans 10

(King James Version)
8. But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach:
9. because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus as Lord, and shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved:
10. for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be put to shame.
12. For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek: for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich unto all that call upon him:
13. for, Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15. and how shall they preach, except they be sent? even as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that bring glad tidings of good things!
16. But they did not all hearken to the glad tidings. For Isaiah saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17. So belief cometh of hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
18. But I say, Did they not hear? Yea, verily, Their sound went out into all the earth, And their words unto the ends of the world.
19. But I say, Did Israel not know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy with that which is no nation, With a nation void of understanding will I anger you.
20. And Isaiah is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I became manifest unto them that asked not of me.
21. But as to Israel he saith, All the day long did I spread out my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
