Is RFID the Beginning?

© 2005 Linda Sedrick Pearson

I just read an article in Information Week magazine (July 18, 2005 issue, p 26) about how radio-frequency identification tags (RFIDs) are being sewn into the seams of children's sleepwear. These RFIDs are tracking systems. The reasoning, according to this article, is to protect our children from abductors. This article, written by Laurie Sullivan, states, "If a child goes missing, that information can be shared with law-enforcement agencies or the Amber Alert system through an interface SmartWear plans to develop with Microsoft."

The information that can be shared is information provided by parents: birthdates, distinguishing marks, photos. SmartWear is the name of the company that is producing these products, which are expected to be out next year, 2006. The sleepwear is supposed to include "a pamphlet attached to the garment will inform customers that sleepwear is designed to prevent child abductions." The service has to be activated by the parent, plus the parent has to purchase a "$500 home-installed system that consists of RFID readers and a low-frequency encoder that connects through a USB port to a computer."

I see several problems with this up-and-coming technology as far as my Christian point of view is concerned. I wonder how long before the jump will be made so that these RFIDs will be seeded into everything we buy. The next step will be that there will be no need for the purchaser to activate the product. This will be done either at the manufacturer or the shop providing such goods.

How long before we jump from that, to these things being implanted under our skin for tracking purposes? These have been tested, I have heard, in the military. Remember what the Bible says about the mark of the beast?

"And he (a beast) causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name" Revelation 13:16-17.

Am I saying that this is the definite mark of the beast talked about in Revelation? NO! I do not know what the mark of the beast is. I only know that Jesus told us to watch and pray until He comes again. We are not to take things such as this lightly. We are to be on guard for ourselves, our families, and our Christian brothers and sisters.

What I am saying is don't accept things at face value. Think them through before jumping in with anything that comes along. These RFIDs sound like a good thing, meant to protect our children. Just remember that Satan is a liar and the father of lies. He is sneaky, and will do everything he can to trick us. We must watch, pray, and be vigilant in everything. Pray for God to reveal to you the truth. Remember, the truth will set you free!

God bless until next time,
