Verse(s) for Feb 12-18, 2008

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Grace is a gift given to us. Grace means unearned favor. There is nothing we can do to earn God's favor. It is a gift freely given to us. There is nothing any human being has ever done or can ever do that will earn grace from God. It is through the grace of God that He sent Jesus Christ, His only Son, to die for our sins.

God fixed it so that we can't do any works in order to be saved. Why? Because if there was something we could do to earn salvation, we wouldn't need Jesus Christ. Also, we would pat ourselves on the back and tell ourselves what good people we are.

Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

We are unclean without Jesus Christ and there is nothing we can do to cleanse ourselves. We can scrub and clean ourselves on the outside and put on perfumes or deodorant. That just cleans us on the outside and makes us smell good to the people of the world. When we sin, our iniquities make us stink to God. He looks upon us and all he sees is filth.

However, when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior then when God looks upon us, He sees nothing but the blood of Jesus Christ. He no longer sees or smells our filth. He sees us through the blood of His Son who died on the cross for our sakes. Jesus didn't have to pay for His own sins because He was sinless (without sin). He did it for us. He did it so that the Father would not see our filth.

Once we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and His death on the cross as payment for our sins, we are reunited with the Father in heaven through our spirits. How precious is everything that Jesus Christ did for us. I thank God for sending His Son to wash away my filthiness and dress me in His precious blood.

If you have not taken the step to allow Jesus Christ to cleanse you, please do that today. I love you and am concerned for you. Please don't think that you can work your way to heaven. No one - NOT ONE - is good enough for that. Please don't die in your sins. Accept Him today!

Sincerely,
Linda Sedrick Pearson
