A Sign of Everlasting Life

by Linda Sedrick Pearson

Isaiah 55:13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

I was excited when I read this verse this morning. I always wondered why fir trees never turn brown in the winter like the other trees. Now I know. According to this verse the fir tree is a sign of everlasting life from the LORD! That is exciting news. Now, everytime I see a fir tree and it's beautiful green branches, I will think of the everlasting life that God has given me through His Son, Jesus Christ.

In the verse, it mentions the myrtle tree. I was not familiar with the myrtle tree at all so I looked it up on the Internet. According to Myrtlewood Factory (http://www.realoregongift.com/Myrtle_Tree_Story/myrtle_tree_story.html), "This tree is a member of the laurel family and is an evergreen." That makes sense since God used it in the same verse with the fir tree. So both trees are evergreen. Both represent Everlasting Life. What a great way to start a day - knowing that God cared enough for us to put a reminder on this earth to us that we receive everlasting life when we accept His Son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior.

Prayer: God, thank you so much for the time you have taken to set up this earth with reminders to us of You, Your Son, and Your Gift to us of Salvation and everlasting life. Amen.

I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed learning and writing it. I couldn't wait to get this typed and share it with you, dear Readers.

Until next time,
Linda Sedrick Pearson
